Tell us how you first met? Who what when where why? Give us the dirty details.
February 2006, we met on, dare I say, MySpace through my best friend Marc. We went to high school together and had a lot of mutual friends but we never actually met. She sent me a message for a recipe and we started chatting from there. She was at FSU and came down on spring break in March and that's when we actually met in person. Her and her friends met my friends and I at a night club in Miami. We were inseparable the rest of the week. We met up in Tampa a month later for her birthday and have been together ever since. By the way, her parents and brother crashed our first romantic trip! It was pretty funny and we all clicked right away.
When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did? etc.
G-I could just tell from the beginning, there was something so natural about being with her. It just felt right. She made me feel secure and showed how much she cared.
J-At the end of my spring break week, as a going away present, he gave me a framed picture of the sunrise we had stayed up to watch together on one of our first dates.
Tell us about the proposal. (Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning?, how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?)
It was 6 years later, too long if you ask her- and she's probably right. I wasn't nervous until right before I did it. I thought I was calm, cool, collected and then I lost my shit at the last minute. Lol. It was my birthday and I asked to go to dinner at the Eden Rock's 1500. We had our first kiss on the beach there. So after a great dinner we took a stroll down memory lane and when we got around the spot we had our first kiss I got down on one knee and proposed. I could've been smoother about it, I went down like a ninja ( as she says) but like I said, that's when the nerves hit me. She had a clue. The spot was too obvious.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other.
I love that he is a good-hearted man with an old soul.
I love that she makes an effort to make every occasion, big or small, a special one.
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does.
Janelle likes to have random dance parties in the living room, sometimes by herself. Among other things.
Gio is too cool to be quirky. I am quirky enough for both of us.
Besides getting married - what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Lots of family being together and...confetti.
What inspired your décor or theme?
Our heritage. Our roots are something we're both passionate and proud of. Seeing Cuba is something we'd both really like to experience one day. Growing up seeing old pictures of our grandparents and parents in their homeland was inspiring. Knowing all they went through during the revolution and having to flee their homes to ensure a better life for their families has instilled a sense of pride in us both. We wanted to capture the essence of the old Cuba that they left behind without being too theme-y or kitschy. We really love the fashion and lifestyle of that era. We tried to have a supper club style event like they did in that time, dinner and a show with dancing to follow was a usual night out for Havana's elite. I think there were also touches of 1920s Gatsby.
